“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

On a cold wet night a thought occurred to me. What would I do in a survival scenario if it was just me and my knife? Would I survive? Well, that remains to be seen. But with this small lightweight survival kit I thought it would help me do it.

I use an Altoids survival tin because they are just the right size to fit perfectly on most knife sheaths.

Well now that you have your tin what do you put inside of it? Inside of the tin I taped a sewing needle inside the lid at the top. I thought hard at this point in time because I didn't know which additional items to put into the survival tin. I decided to include different kinds of creams such as insect protection cream, sunscreen lotion, burn cream, and sting relief lotion. For the fishing gear I have 7 artificial baits, roughly 30 feet of 8 pound test fishing line, 4 hooks, and 6 small led weights. I always keep at least 3 Tums antacid tablets in every survival kit simply because they keep away heartburn, something I don't like. I added jute twine for a few reasons. First because it is great cordage and it is excellent tinder for a fire. Next on the list I keep a 1'x1' ft piece of aluminium foil that I can make a cup out of. I also keep pencil and paper just in case I need to write notes down. Also in my survival tin I keep some duck tape and a $20 bill for emergencies.

This is a great survival  kit!
