“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

What is a debris shelter? How do you build a debris shelter? What benefits does this type of shelter have? All of these questions will be answered in the text.

A debris shelter is a shelter made of forest debris including logs, limbs, leaves, sticks, and pine straw.

First and foremost you need a good collection of logs about the width of your wrist. Lay them against your tree in the shape of a tea pea. Next you need medium sized limbs to lay against the logs. Now you need leaves and small sticks to place in the spaces between the logs. Inside of the debris shelter you need to layer pine straw on the ground, this keeps you from getting cold at night because it is a layer of insulation that keeps you off the ground.

Some of the benefits of the debris shelter is that it keeps you out of the elements like rain, wind, sun and snow. It's fun to practice, easy to make and it allows you to have a good night's sleep.
