“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

We've had several packages of the Mountain House Freeze Dried Raspberry Crumble and I am finally getting a moment to taste test this dessert.

I packed up my supplies in my FILBE main pack and water in my FILBE Hydration Carrier and hiked down to one of our favorite spots on the rocky banks of the Roanoke River and set up my Aqua Quest 13x10 camo safari tarp over my Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater Pro hammock for a bit of relaxation.

I boiled water in my Stanley Adventure Cup on my EtekCity backpack stove and soon had a wonderful, flavorful and delicious Mountain House dessert.

Husqvarna hatchet

I did however in my haste to get to the river forget a spoon so I used my Husqvarna hatchet and BK-16 KABAR knife to whittle one up.

I made a small fishing lure with a gold-colored beer bottle top and fished for a while. Either the fish just didn't like the lure or they simply weren't biting.

The temperature was in the mid 90's and and consumed almost five liters of water. In order to refill my FILBE hydration bladder I had to tie my Stanley Adventure cup to the end of my paracord and lower it twenty-five feet down the cliffside into the water and bale it out.

The bugs and wind made wonderful and beautiful ripples on the surface of the water. The water from the Roanoke River looks clear and cool.

Sawyer mini water filter and squeeze bag inside of FILBE hydration carrier

The river is a fantastic water source and towards the end of this sweltering summer day I had to use my Sawyer Mini Water Filter to refill my Camelback 3L water bladder.

I store one of my Sawyer mini water filters inide the main compartment of my FILBE Hyrdation Carrier. Doing so ensures that I always have it with me.

I refilled my hydration bladder for that last time and stowed my Sawyer mini away.

Any day I get on that river is a day well spent.
