We took a short hike along the Roanoke Canal trail with the intent to find wild edibles that are super easy to identify
.
We found black walnut, pawpaw, acorns, pecans, bitternut hickory, grapes and pine nuts. These easily identifiable edibles are not only nutritious but can be used as bait for animals. We also found a good bit of fatwood!
We always carry food with us on each trip. Usually some type of beef jerky or spam, noodles and bannock bread mix. It's always helpful to be able to identify some of the easier wild edibles for "just in case" situations.
