We worked as hard and fast as we possibly could trying to reach our goal of having the firebox and chimney completely functional by the year's end.

The chimney progress is leading us into our next phase of the cabin build. Gabriel purchased a braided rug from a local thrift store. The moment it was placed on the floor it changed the entire look and feel of the cabin. We had a major arctic blast with temps at 1 degree with negative windchills! WOW!
Solid white oak sourced from the farm gets cut and transformed into a beautiful, rough-cut, rustic mantel using fire, sanding tools, boiled linseed oil, and Howard Feed-n-Wax wood polish.
Here is a brief overview of the Gen I and Gen II ECWCS Parkas, and why I prefer the GEN I over the others for daily use.
We spent the night in the cabin and had a great breakfast. We started work on the firebox because our goal is to have a fire in it by Christmas 2022. Did we set our goal too high?
